Choking and DROWNING victims
Choking and Drowning; When someone has something in their airways that is stopping their breathing. If someone is drowning then they are choking on water, usually while swimming. Patients often inhale water into their lungs and need it to be drained with medical attention.

What to do with a drowning victim;
1.) If they are out in a pool or the sea then make sure that it is safe for you to go out to rescue them 2.) Once reached them, approach with caution, because they are struggling and will grab onto anything to stay afloat (including you) 3.) Get them back to the shore or dry land 4.) Call for help (000) 5.) Go through the DRS.ABCD steps |
What to do with a choking victim;
1.) While they are choking all you can do is the Heimlich Maneuver, which involves squeezing there chest (lungs) so that air rushes out and possibly unblocks whatever is blocking it 2.) Encourage the victim to cough the blockage out 3.) Hit the victim in the upper back to encourage the blockage's movement, possibly allowing it to come unstuck 4.) If the patient falls unconscious then follow the DRS.ABCD steps |
